Imogen's work
Biography
- Imogen was born in April 12, 1883 and died in June 23, 1976. She was an American photographer that focused on botanical photography and industrial landscapes.
- Her career spanned over seven decades and her work has given an outstanding contribution to fine art photography. Imogen had a childhood fascination with the beauty and complexities of nature, which is shown throughout her work. When she decided to concentrate her attention on flowers, her main focus was close up detailed shots, most emphasises on texture and detail. She became most famous for her stunning and sensual close up of flowers.
- While she was studying at the university of Washington, Imogen took pride on offering a more naturalistic approach to taking photographs, other than the traditional studio rigid poses and stereotypical formats. in 1906 she took a nude self portrait in a 4x5 mail order camera, which began her love of portraiture.
- At that time she created controversial pictures of herself naked in the wilderness. this inspired me as she was not afraid to break the boundaries of conventional society to take a photograph. Her floral studies were influenced by stark lines and were mainly of close-ups, as she believed the "paradox of expansion of nature via reduction becomes vivid when one looks at the visual aspect of nature; each level of detail is echoed in the next larger and smaller level of scale"
How this photographer assisted me in my calling to the camera!
- She encouraged me to pursue the things I want to do in photography, regardless of how hard the task seems. That mindset led me to conquering how to use the macro-lens, learning Photoshop and overcoming how to make the most out of Lightroom. You can see this through my work! She broke free of traditional studio rigid poses and stereotypical formats and developed her own style of pictures. This encouraged me to create and develop my own style of photography too.
